As we get closer to bid adieu to 2020, let’s evaluate and understand the takeaways before we bring in the Year 2021 with all zest and zeal.
Year 2020 was filled with uncertainty, challenges, learning’s and some regrets!!!
This pandemic has taught us to accept the new normal and think beyond the obvious. Companies like Disney, Uber (via UberEats), E-commerce firms like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal were some examples of businesses emerging through crisis and diversifying into digital space, food or grocery delivery business respectively to balance out the decline in their other business activities.
As individuals, some of us were able to bring out our interests and hobbies to forefront during this pandemic – some wore the chef’s hat, while some explored the artistic side (painting or dancing), etc. Some went through crisis financially, emotionally, mentally or even worse loss of family or friends but everyone learnt to take this year with a pinch of salt.
We all had to accept and adapt to the sudden change that the pandemic brought about in our life. We are still uncertain and clueless what life will be in future. This year not only impacted individuals, organizations, government but the economy as a whole. The entire world changed – it came to a standstill…
This year the entire spotlight was on HR and technology. How well were the HR leaders and businesses prepared to adjust to the drastic change, were employees/individuals open to embrace the new normal be it in their personal or professional life? So, what did we learn as Individuals, Businesses and HR Leaders?
As businesses and HR Leaders, we learnt to –
- Have a flexible and diverse workforce
- Prioritize employee well-being and health
- Contingency planning is essential
- Technology is the key to survive any crisis
- Hire skilled workforce
- Resonate the company values and visions through actions as well
- Communication is imperative.
While for employees, some of the takeaways were –
- Be open to change
- Be prepared to tackle uncertainty
- Upskill and reskill
- Create your Personal Value Proposition
- Build trust and network.
As we reflect back, it indeed was a roller-coaster ride and our worlds did turn up-side-down but on the flip side, it also gave us a chance to – rewind, reminisce, undo or redo certain routine or mundane activities in a better way.
As we approach another year, hopefully the lessons learnt through 2020 will help us sail through and have a peaceful 2021.
All said and done, it is all about how we look at it and evolve.
In short, it is the year that taught us to –
ü Appreciate everything we have
ü Take a pause, analyze and look within & around us.
ü Be flexible, adaptable, and more empathetic
ü Be positive and open to learn new things
ü Value our life, family and health.
Thank the Year 2020 for all the lessons…..
Year 2021 – We are ready 🙂
